HOUSTON WE LOVE YOU
Dear Friends and Family:
Our hearts break for Houston. Jessica was born and raised here, Sebastian was born here and Nicholas has called Houston home for more than eight years. We love this city. We love its charm, its diversity, its ability to inspire and its unwavering capacity to bounce back from the tough times. These past few days have been some of the toughest. We were fortunate, extremely fortunate, not to experience the worst outcomes that so many in our community -- many friends and colleagues -- experienced. And we have pledged as a family to always pay back this blessing and help others who were not so lucky.
As thrilled as we were to welcome you to Jessica's birthday party and Gigi's baby shower, scheduled originally for Saturday, August 26, and rescheduled for Saturday, September 2, we have decided to cancel the celebration. We were looking forward to seeing all of you, but for many reasons including safety, travel, recovery, etc., now is not the time to celebrate. It will be again soon, and we hope to see each of you. Thank you for your RSVP, and many thanks to those who sent gifts. We, especially Gigi, appreciate your love and kindness greatly.
There's a reason we call Houston Clutch City, the Big Heart and Hustle-Town, to name a few nicknames. It's a great city, and we encourage you to donate to one of the following local charities that are helping families affected by Hurricane Harvey:
Texas Diaper Bank - http://www.texasdiaperbank.org/
SPCA of Texas - https://spca.org/give
Houston Humane Society - http://www.houstonhumane.org/
Mayor Turner's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund - https://ghcf.org/
JJ Watt's Houston Flood Relief Fund - https://www.youcaring.com/victimsofhurricaneharvey-915053
LGTBQ Disaster Relief Fund - https://my.reason2race.com/DNicol/HurricaneHarveyLGBTQDisasterReliefFund2017

There are many other ways to give or support Houston. If you spot any, feel free to share them. Also, if you'd like to verify any of the organizations listed here, please visit Charity Navigator (always a good way to verify donations and avoid fraud) https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=5239.
You can also check out KidLitCares, a Hurricane Relief effort organized by caring authors and writers. It's auction-based, so a great way to give if you are a lit nerd or aspiring writer. http://www.katemessner.com/kidlit-cares-our-hurricane-harvey-relief-effort/
Finally, donations or gifts to University of Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center are always appreciated.
Thank you!
Jessica, Sebastian, Gigi and Nicholas
